Encompassing the Globe: The Iberian Atlantic in the Age of Don Quijote
From 1580 to 1640 - during the Iberian Union - Portugal and Spain held a vast empire, encompassing the globe. In the recent decades, historians engaged in writing global histories based on imperial and colonial frames have often referred to that Iberian enterprise. This lecture will review recent trends in scholarship and propose new approaches.
