JCB Open Research Night for Tribal Community Members

The John Carter Brown (JCB) Library invites local tribal community members to an open house and  research night in the Library’s reading room on the evening of March 21, 2024. From 5pm to 7pm, researchers can explore materials by making requests for items from the library’s online catalog. In addition to researcher-requested materials from the catalog, pre-selected primary source materials from the JCB’s collection will also be available to view and discuss.

The JCB’s collections are focused around the history of the Americas before 1825.  The Library’s rich collection of printed books, manuscripts, maps, prints and more supports research inquiry into post- colonial interactions across Indigenous cultures in the Western hemisphere. Tribal community members interested in Indigenous languages, ethnobotany, placemaking, memory and critical Native and Indigenous studies are encouraged to attend the open house event.

JCB staff will be on hand to provide research support and an introduction to the JCB card catalog, and to discuss the JCB’s new fellowship for Indigenous communities.

Before arriving on-site, researchers are encouraged to create a JCB research account. The JCB’s website contains further information about using the library
