Fluidity: Knowing Water in the Americas

The panel will explore French Writing on the American River; the use of sea ice by Iñupiaq and Yupik whalers in the Western Arctic; Mexico City’s historical arc of development relative to flooding; and the role of Inuit and scientific knowledge in decision-making about the future of the Arctic marine environment. A selection of items from the forthcoming exhibition Bodies of Water/Bodies at Work, co-curated by Katherine Ibbett, Molly Warsh and Ivonne del Valle, will be on view at the John Carter Brown Library.
