One Book (or Map) at a Time: New Acquisitions at the JCB
Have you ever wondered how the JCB enlarges its collection? This Wednesday, February 22, Director and Librarian Neil Safier will lead a show-and-tell of recent acquisitions, followed by a Q & A with Curator of Latin American Books Ken Ward and Assistant Librarian for Research and Reference Services Kim Nusco. Join us at 4 p.m. in the MacMillan Reading Room to see how new materials go from the book market to the reading room. You will see freshly purchased and uncatalogued books and maps including: an early 19th-century manuscript of mercantile legislation governing the commercial relations between Spain and Spanish America; the first edition of a pamphlet criticizing the conduct of the Dutch West India Company; engravings of combat by Tupinamba warriors in 16th-century Brazil; a spectacular map of Cap Français (Haiti); and much more.
Presentation by Neil Safier, Kimberly Nusco, and Kenneth Ward.
