Earle Havens is the William Kurrelmeyer Curator of Rare Books and Manuscripts, & Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of German & Romance Languages & Literatures, Johns Hopkins University. He is also Principal Investigator of the ongoing digital humanities initiative, The Archaeology of Reading dealing with early modern book annotation. His illustrated talk will explore Richard Eden’s personal annotated copy-text for his 1555 translation of Peter Martyr’s Decades of the New World at Johns Hopkins, and expand upon the broader implications of marginal annotation in printed books for scholarly innovation, now and in the near future.
