José Montelongo
Maury A. Bromsen Curator of Latin American Books
José Montelongo oversees acquisitions for Latin American library materials, curates exhibitions, and collaborates with JCB fellows and the Brown University community on the history and culture of Latin America. He holds a PhD in Spanish American Literature from Washington University in St. Louis. As an author and translator, his published work comprises novels, children’s books, and the young adult title Mi abuelo fue agente secreto. In addition to his creative work, he translated Nicolas Grimaldi’s Bref traité du désenchantement and co-edited A Library for the Americas: The Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection. Recently, he discussed the origins of the JCB collection on the podcast Las Cosas Tienen Vida and curated an exhibition exploring the materiality of rare books.
