The Accidental Tourist: John Adams in Spain, 1779-1780
The Annual Meeting of the Association of the Friends and Fellows of the John Carter Brown Library will feature Richard Kagan, The Johns Hopkins University, speaking on "The Accidental Tourist: John Adams in Spain, 1779-1780."
Professor Kagan will first transport us back to year's end 1779, when John Adams was appointed by Congress to travel to Paris to negotiate treaties of peace and commerce with Great Britain. Sit back, buckle your seat belt, and relax. You're about to veer off course. Your ship has been leaking, and repairs will take a month. Do you decide to wait—or walk?
The lecture is free and open to the public. All are invited. Reception to follow.
